SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS EVENING (S.H.E.) BRANCH
Our Branch is turning 12 this year. We are a dynamic group of women who listen to our members and try to make a difference.
We had a vision in November of 2011 that an evening branch would be welcomed by women of the Southern Highlands, including the towns of Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale and beyond, who worked, volunteered or had commitments during the day but wanted to belong to a vibrant, energetic organisation.
Membership grew quickly, with about 30 active members in only a few years.
A diverse and interesting group of women of varying ages and interests have developed a solid branch which is financially viable, well equipped, socially welcoming and has a well earned reputation for fun and achievement.
Local meetings often having an entertaining guest speaker or special event, such as celebrating the culture of our country of study for the year.
Two elected members represent the branch at Wollondilly Group level, which connects members between Branches and to our State body.
Members choose to attend any of our social events, these include dinners, movies, excursions, craft mornings and walking groups. We support community events of interest through the branch, and share the work at fundraising activities like cake stalls and BBQ's . Catering and entertainment for a movie premiere has been our recent major annual activity to raise funds for the year's chosen charity. It is now so popular that you need to purchase your tickets early for these extravaganza's which has include The Great Gatsby and Jersey Boys.
There are many roles available to members to guide the branch in particular areas of interest – handicrafts, cookery, culture, agriculture, medical issues, overseas projects, Royal Agricultural Show.
CWA of NSW is a highly respected women's organisation with an enviable record for putting women in touch with each other for over 90 years and contributing to debates on many social issues facing Australia and country women.
